1) A Man was born in the first half of nineteenth century was x years old in the year x^2. He was born in
a) 1806 b) 1836 c) 1812 d) 1825
2)A three digit number has, from left to right , the digits h,t & u with h > u . When the number with the digits reversed is substracted from the original number , the unit's digit in the difference is 4. The next two digits , from the right to the left , are :
a) 5 & 9 b) 9 & 5 c) 5 & 4 d) 4 & 5
3) A merchant bought some goods at a discount of 20% of the list price . He wants to mark them at such a price that he can give a discount of 20% of the marked price and still make a profit of 20% of the selling price. The percent of the list price of which he should mark them is :
a) 20 b) 100 c) 125 d) 80
4) A taxi travelling at a uniform speed . The driver sees a milestone showing a 2 - digit number. After travelling for an hour the driver sees another milestone with the same digits in the reverse order.After anothe hour the driver sees another milestone containing three digits and with the same two digits included .The average speed of the taxi is
a) 45km/hr b) 36 km/hr c) 54 km/hr d) 42 km/hr

Q4. (A)
ReplyDeleteMILESTONE1= 16
MILESTONE2 =61
SPEED 61-16=45KM/HR
MILESTONE 3=61+45=106

ReplyDeleteQ1.c
ReplyDelete(he was 4 years old in 1816 so born in 1812)
Q2.b
(781-187=594)
Q3.c
(assuming 100 an proceeding further)
Q4.a
(hit and trial)
ans1- (a) i.e 1806
ReplyDeletereason- x*x=43*43=1849 and x*x-x=1849-43=1806
ans2- (b) i.e 9 and 5
reason - when a three digit no. is subtracted from reverse of it then middle digit is always 9 and sum of first and third digit is also 9.
ans3- (a) i.e 20%
reason - suppose list price is 100 then cost price is 80.so he marked the price 120 so that after discount of 20 % on M.P. he can earn a profit of 20% on cost price.so he sells at 96.....so the percent on list price increased is 20% which is the answer.
ans4- (a) by hit and trial method
if anyone can give better reason please post it....
1.a ,2.b ,3.a, 4.a
ReplyDelete1-a , 3-c
ReplyDelete2 ans - Ramit can u explain more ??
ReplyDelete1 a
ReplyDelete2 b
3 a
4 a (some good soln plz..)
1-a
ReplyDeletex=43
x*x=43*43=1849
1849-43=1806
2-b
h-u=6
99*6=594
3-c
assume LP=100
CP=80
for 20%profit of S.P.aftr a dscnt of 20%....MP=125
4-a
9(b-a)=v
hit n trial...b-a=5
milestone 1=16
milestone 2=16+45
milestone3=61+46=106
Q1.ans(a)1806
ReplyDeleteat age of 43years year=43^2=1849
therefore yr of birth=1849-43=1806
1 (a) 43 is the only feasible option.
ReplyDelete2 (b) Simple substraction procedure.
3 My Markup Price is coming out to be 120. So not sure abt any of the options.
4 (a) Speed is uniform. Wud cover same distance in same time time So getting 45 from the options given.
1.a)
ReplyDelete43*43=1849
=>born in 1806 (1st half of 19th century)
2.b)
3.c)
4.a) (hit n trial. pls post a better solution)
1)a...
ReplyDeleteSince their is only one perfect square in 19th century i.e. 1849 and it's square is 43 so DOB will be 1849-43=1806..
2)b...
since u<h so while subtracting the reverse of the number from the number we have to take a carry from the tens digit so it will be 9 surely because t will be subtracted from t-1.
and 3rd digit from right will be surely 5.
So ans is 9 and 5...
3)a...
Suppose that 100 is the starting price now proceeding further...
4)a)
the three numbers are 16,61 and 106....
1.a 1806
ReplyDelete2.b 9,5
3.
4. a. 45 km/hr
q1. the only square between 1800-1850 is 1848 ie (43)square.. hence 1806
ReplyDeleteq2. the difference is always 9 hence option b.
q3. let x be the marked price and y be the list price
hence.. he buys at 0.8y and sells at 0.8x...(1)
sells with 20% profit = 0.8y*1.2= 0.96y.....(2)
(1) and (2) are equal
hence x/y*100= 0.96/0.8*100= 120
=> 20% (A)
4) by hit n trial 16,61,106... but need a better soln... earlier i thought it must be a multiple of 9 as the differnce between 2 digit reverse no's is always a multiple of 9 and odd and since it is comes twice in two digits and 1ce in 3 digit hence it should be near 50(thats 45)... pls check for this soln... not sure....
